Emerging Artist Development Opportunity – Switched On Festival Whitby
Age group: 18-25
Are you an aspiring or emerging electronic musician? Would you like support to develop a performance set? And perform at Switched On Festival in Whitby this November?
Yorkshire Sound Women Network WIRED programme, AMP Music and Flash Company Arts are inviting applications from women and people of marginalised genders aged 18-25, to an Artist Development Opportunity.
The programme includes:
● 1:1 support from an artist mentor with 2 sessions before the performance and 1 after
● Check ins and support from the AMP Programme Manager and WIRED Project Coordinator
● A fee of £300 for time to rehearse your set and perform at the festival
● Perform an approx. 30 minute set at Switched On Festival, Whitby Electronic Music Weekender, between Friday 8th – Sunday 10th November
● Access to additional budget for rehearsal space and/or equipment/software if required (up to £200)
● Travel and accommodation costs covered for your involvement in the festival
● Opportunity to take part in a hands on workshop with experienced musicians on Saturday 9th November
● A festival ticket to Switched On
This opportunity will support you to perform live to a real audience, improving your confidence, performing within a supportive safe space. You will also gain skills in how to prepare for a live show, including invoicing and how to market yourself.
Eligibility
This opportunity is for women and people of marginalised genders aged 18-25. We will prioritise those facing further challenges such as: rural isolation, those who have experienced the care system, people of colour, LGBTQ+ artists, neurodivergent, and d/disabled artists. Ideally you will live in Yorkshire and consider how you will travel to Whitby. We can cover travel and accommodation costs if required.
You need to be available for the festival weekend 8th – 10th November, but can specify in your application which day/s would be preferable.
Selection Process
Following the submission deadline, a selection panel from Yorkshire Sound Women Network WIRED programme, AMP Music and Flash Company Arts, will meet to assess the applications. They will be looking for an applicant who can demonstrate they are at the right point in their own development to benefit the most from this opportunity. Switched On Festival presents an eclectic mix of electronic music, but they will also consider how your music will fit into the overall programme.
