Connecting young people with sound opportunities

Lug Ole Gander 2: Creative Workshop + Live Experimental Music – Rural Arts, Thirsk. July 19th 2025.

Edit: (Updated 18th July 2025)

After a wonderful event on Jun 7th at Young Thugs in York, last week we took the decision collectively to cancel tomorrow’s planned event on July 19th (Rural Arts) due to lack of sales.

AMP Producers is first and foremost designed to be a learning process for young people to gain real industry experience in events production. As part of that we try to balance a high level of support and industry mentoring, whilst also giving the young producers team an authentic level of independence in decision making and choices.

Although we are so disappointed to cancel this event, we know that decisions like these are a vital part of learning about event production. Slow sales reflect additional challenges working in rural locations where audience is much more limited, especially for experimental artforms. We felt in this limited funding landscape, the risk was too high to produce a high quality event that was not guaranteed to reach an audience. We have a responsibility as a charity to ensure that our funding is used in the most impactful way possible. With this in mind, we intend to redistribute funds to continue supporting our AMP Producers team, whether that be group training or individual grants to produce events in their local areas. We will respond to their needs and allocate funds in conversation with them.

We are so proud of the team and the exciting line-ups they have created. Including their brilliant event at Young Thugs platforming Jo Christman and Ola Szmidt. This was a full day event featuring a creative workshop, attended by people from aged 13+ and two live performances from experimental artists Jo and Ola.

After a really positive and successful workshop and live show at Young Thugs on 7th June (pictured above/below), we’re excited to present the AMP: Producers second (and final) event of their 2025 programme.

‘In rural North Yorkshire, only 10% of young people we spoke to had attended a concert. Through live performances and creative workshops, we’re creating a music festival that encourages all ages to explore experimental music.’ (AMP: Producers Team)
