Emily’s story

“My journey with AMP began when I joined the Young Producers programme as a music journalist and press co-ordinator. The programme enabled me to gain real-life experiences of podcasting and social media in a safe environment, as well as receive invaluable mentorship from professional journalists and radio producers. I particularly enjoyed the editing and marketing aspects of my role, so much so that I then joined Forge LCEP as a social media assistant.
As a young producer, I developed a range of soft skills, including public speaking (which is something I used to dread!). During AMP’s relaunch, I presented on my experience as a Young Producer. Realising a passion for youth voice, I have since represented AMP at several industry events where I presented and sat-on panels focused on the importance of youth voice in the music industry.
I have now returned to university to pursue a master’s degree, where I joined student radio. My experience at AMP gave me the confidence to apply for my own music radio show which I was accepted for! From this, I interviewed several established bands such as STONE, King No-One and Sterling Press, and my show was recognised at the end of year awards. In addition, I was recently accepted onto the Creative Mentor Network’s Positive Influence programme where I have been matched with a mentor from Sony Music to explore further opportunities in the music industry.
I cannot thank AMP enough for the opportunities they have provided to help me reach the position I am in now. Before joining AMP, I had no exposure to the music industry but with the incredible support during and after the Young Producers programme, I now see a bright future working in music!”
