“I am looking forward to studying at Newcastle College… I’ll still be back on a weekend to help run the sessions.”

Joe was unsure of his next steps after completing his GCSEs and was considering a trade as an apprentice. It looked like he was about to become a vehicle or bicycle mechanic, but a chance conversation suddenly opened a new line of enquiry.

He realised his real passion was live sound.

We explored options for part time music production courses and whether an apprenticeship with BlueBoxt could work. Research quickly identified how limited the choices were with only one college offering post 16 music production and live sound without performance as main focus. The provision was full time. Open evenings, application interviews followed, and the offer of a place means a study/career pathway is in place.
